Regular chiller maintenance, including condenser cleaning is important because the cleaning removes dirt, dust, and debris that can accumulate on condenser coils.  This buildup hinders their ability to dissipate heat effectively.  A clogged condenser forces the chiller to work harder, leading to decreased efficiency, increased energy consumption, and higher operating costs.

The frequency of condenser cleaning for ACMV company in Singapore depends on several factors of HVAC in Singapore, including:

  • Environment: Dusty or polluted environments require more frequent cleaning.
  • Operating hours: Chillers that run continuously may need cleaning more often.

Scaling and fouling begins to take place after 200 to 400 hours from the last manual cleaning, hence the ideal practice is to clean the heat exchanger or condenser inner tubes before 200 hours.  To be sustainable and save the carbon footprint, the auto tube cleaning system that automatically circulates sponge balls (at pre-set time interval) through the condenser tubing, keeping the inner surface free from scaling and fouling.  Each cleaning cycle scours off the soft scale and microbial fouling before hardening occurs in heat exchanger tubes, thereby saving energy, water and other costs.

Among the automatic tube cleaning system manufacturers in Singapore, Hydroball Technics stood out as the winner of sustainable HVAC solution at the Singapore Apex Corporate Sustainability Awards 2022, recognised for our ground-breaking work in sustainable industrial development for energy saving HVAC – the Non-Powered Hydroball ATCS.

Hydroball’s automatic tube cleaning system offers several benefits for chiller maintenance and condenser tube cleaning via its patented system and comprehensive condenser cleaning procedure:

  • “Non-Powered” system, which does not require prime movers such as pumps, compressors or divertors, hence less maintenance.
  • “Dual Loop” design to prevent mixing of cold and hot water within condenser, preserving chiller efficiency.
  • “Water Resilient” mechanism – no water discharge, minimising water wastage.

Singapore’s average Operating Margin Grid Emission Factor (OM GEF), which measures the carbon intensity of electricity generation, is 0.4168 kg CO2 per kWh as at 2022 according to the EMA’s website. Besides that, an independent assessment report for the HydroBall ATC system from a field-testing project funded by The Enterprise Challenge Unit (TEC Reference No: L00279/772) proves that with the HydroBall ATC system installed, the chiller-specific electricity consumption of a building can be reduced by 18.4%.

Hence, taking the example of an operational 600 RT chiller running 12 hours daily with a HydroBall ATC system installed, it can reduce carbon footprints by approximately 187,000 kg CO2 based on the above parameters. This underscores HydroBall ATC system’s commitment not only to operational efficiency but also to environmental sustainability.

Commercial buildings consume approximately 40% of global energy and account for one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions.  Global sustainability concerns, combined with the limitations of the legacy HVAC systems, necessitate the need for cost-effective & ROI driven solutions. Internet of things (IoT) is a network of interconnected & internet-connected objects that can collect and transfer data over a network without human intervention.  This technology is transforming the way HVAC systems work, allowing the connected equipment within the platform to gain insights into their operations and optimise performance.  Traditional chiller condenser cleaning practices can be reshaped by leveraging IoT tube cleaning system (ATCS) integrated with HVAC. Revolutionising HVAC maintenance and operation, some of the benefits for this integration include:  real-time monitoring, predicative maintenance, energy optimisation and cost reduction.

Our cooling towers are certified by the Cooling Technology Institute, America (CTI) which is the world’s authoritative cooling tower association organization at present.  CTI certification is a guarantee and recognition of the thermal performance of high efficiency cooling tower products. This certification is a high-standard and strict inspection of our brand cooling tower efficiency, quality and strengths.

Typically, cooling towers rely on chemical treatments to control scale, corrosion, and biological growth.  However, chemical liquids delivery involves bulky packaging, disposal, transportation, storage space and spill containment preparations.  Hence, the non treatment for cooling towers is a green and sustainable approach to mitigate the carbon footprints.  Non treatment for cooling towers refers to the practice of operating cooling towers without the use of traditional chemical treatments or other conventional water conditioning methods.  The non-chemical treatment approaches aim to achieve similar goals through alternative means, such as physical or mechanical processes, natural solutions, or even advanced technologies like UV light or ozone generation.

When it comes to large commercial HVAC operations, cooling tower systems are essential. The use of water to transfer heat allows for much more efficient cooling than when using air.  With cooling towers, water isn’t returned to the source at all. Instead, it’s withdrawn into the factory and recirculated. Evaporating techniques remove the heat out of it, so it can go multiple rounds. Tainted water can’t kill fish when it never gets back into the source to begin with.  To reduce evaporation losses in a cooling tower, consider to install drift eliminators, optimise tower design and water flow distribution, as well as use water-saving nozzles etc.

To address the concerns such as “are cooling towers bad for environment”, the advanced system like IoT cooling tower system enables 24/7 real time monitoring of cooling tower services. IoT-driven analytics analyze the collected data to identify patterns, anomalies, and performance trends. These insights empower plant operators with actionable information to enhance cooling tower cleaning, efficiency and performance.
